Self-care refers to anything that you do to keep yourself mentally, emotionally, physically socially and spiritually healthy. It encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can transmit the good feelings to others. Self-care involves conscious participation in activities that promote healthy functioning and enhance a person's well-being and quality of life. Despite popular belief, Self-care is so much more than just a beauty regimen or an external thing you do. A pedi/mani yes is relaxing and feels good but doesn't last, the way that meditating, exercising or reciting daily affirmations can. Today’s societal pressures urge us to prioritize everything from school, work, and life in general not surprisingly, by the end of the day, many of us are left drained and have little motivation to focus on ourselves. It has to start within your heart to know what you need to navigate your life. The irony here is that making the time for self-care is essential to performing well in all the other areas of our lives. In order to change what we do, we have to change how we think. To figure out what you need, start by simply noticing when you feel invigorated and when you feel drained. Look for patterns. Look at Self-care as the process of how you take your power back. Now begin creating your own understanding of what self-care looks like to you. It has to start within “YOU” to know what “YOU”need to navigate your life.
